Default 87 hurricane fairing swap or streetfighter?

Hi, I'm new here! I've been trying to figure out what fairings to go with on the O'l 87 cbr1000f.. she runs great, and doesn't have any major issues. but the fairings are beat to death! I've been thinking about tossing on the rear end of a 99 cbr600f4, and going street fighter front. but I would rather just change out to the 96 cbr1000f fairings if I can.. does anyone have any experience with the change over? any suggestions would be appreciated. -kayName: 2012-04-20_18-46-24_389.jpg

To my understanding ..we are stuck with our year for fairings without doing any major mods to get them to fit ... But hay if u gettin rid of the front id love to take it off ur hands if its in good enough shape

I was going to fighter mine but don't much like the way they look naked. The 600's are ok because the tank sits on the frame but the 1000 tank is up a bit and I don't much like it. Also the front of our bikes is a huge mess of wires radiators and oil coolers. I am sure you can make it look ok but its gonna take a bunch of work and you will loose a lot of the wind buffering/comfort with no front fairing. I say turn up the WhiteSnake and rock it like its 1987.

Default 87 replacement newer fairings

Hey:

If you want to go to newer CBR1000F fairings, it is best to find a complete wrecked bike, that can become a doner for the stuff you need. If you go to my albums on here you will see my mk1 88 which are the same as mk1 87 bodywise with 94 bodywork on it. The main thing you need is the rear seat mount off the newer bikes, the seat, and the passenger grab rail/ with mounts. You will also see my 91 with 95/96 bodywork, and my 95 with 99 bodywork in my avatar.
90 and up bodywork interchanges pretty easy, you only need a new fairing mount bracket, gauges and headlight, to install a complete newer mk3 93< bodywork on a 89-92 mk2. The 93 plus mk3 rear was a popular swap to get rid of the cylon tailight on the 89-92 bikes and is pretty much a bolt on deal, as long as you have the rear with tail light lense off the newer bike. mk1 87-88 need the sides, plus the rear tail mounts mentioned above and the newer guages to match and the costly newer headlight, and is the reason you do not see it done much. I have seen a few CBR1000Fs with many other Honda body work including 04/5 RR, 900RR, F4i, RC51, and 1100XX. they all took a little fabbing up to do and most turned out pretty good but you have to get it all if you want a easier time doing it without alot of cutting and matching from one type to another. Good luck on whatever you decide to do.

thanks for the great responses guys, I'm kind of at a crossroads here. I think I'll tear it down tonight and get a real good look at what I'm dealing with(wires, hoses, coolers-relocation. if I do this I think I'll go all out and do 99-00 600f4 fairings, my buddy has a complete wrecked body that I can use for mocking up brackets and such. if it looks like it's just not going to happen I'll just move forward with a fighter. thanks again guys

I'll let ya know about my fairings if they come off permanently. I think the 87-88 1000's would get alot more love if a company was making replica plastics. either way I go it'll be a fun bike
