87 alternator damper question
Hello everyone,
I've got the typical starter whine and after looking at Stu's excellent article on the same topic, I took the damper out only to find out that it's not the same (his was 90).
My question is, can the 87 alternator damper be taken apart to be rebuilt(and how) and should the inner shaft spin? I've tried finger spinning it and nothing. I've also tried placing it on the alternator shaft and spinning and no luck.
I emailed Owen regarding his install of MK2 damper and very glad to hear that he was able to do it.
Thanks in advance.

It can be dismantled and cleaned and even made a little stiffer if needed by adding a washer.
If it is like the 91 damper it has a circlip at one end which can be removed allowing the plates to be pulled out. If you do this be very careful to note not only the order but the orientation of the discs. Some are cupped.
