Any know issues with this year/model? Looking at one with under 6k miles on it, very nice condition. Also what is fair asking price on this bike?

Common problem would be the cam chain rattle, which should not be apparent at 6k miles. In the US the max blue book value on a mint bike is right around $2000.

 

Boy would I be suspect on that year with such low miles, might have had the cluster changed, which are readily available on e-bay.

A quick way to check to see if the mileage is legit is to look at the foot-pegs, they should look brand new with no wear.

Also look for the amount of road chips on the lower fairing behind the rear wheel, should be almost spotless.

But if all looks ok, it has good tires on it $2000 is about right.

I paid $2500 for my 1990 with 4300 miles on it.

But it really depends on how bad you want this bike!


As far as the cam chain tensioner, don't even give it a thought. You have a long, long time before you see any issue with that, even then it's just noisy, not critical.

 

I have an 88 1000F-J I brought back from Germany. Has 75K kilometers (46,600-ish miles) and all I have ever done is change the oil/filter and lube the chain. I abuse the hell out of this bike and it keep on chugging along. If it TRULY has under 6k miles, snap that puppy up! You WONT regret it. OH! I have changed the tires...

 

If you are here in the UK it wouldn't be a problem because the old M.O.T certificate's (annual roadworthy check carried out for the government) would highlight that the mileage had been played with.
