Im sorry but I have to agree with cBrentb

You are talking about something that can go down easy in the wrong hands... The time and energy you put into something to have it messed up because a guy is a partner owner in it and wants to take it for a ride for the first time in years? There's a reason he has let it sit and is not currently riding... Split owner ship that you dont have the title of is not a smart idea... I foresee a ruined friendship... Hurt heart due to loss of bike... And words or blows exchanged if something happens... I personally would not do it unless its something easily cleaned up and running with lil to no money involved... Buy it out rite or dont waste your time

- shared ownership - an interesting concept the original owner has.

My opinion from reading it - chances are this is not in your best interests
reads to me like the old Guy is looking for someone to get her running - gratis

I think the defining moment in a deal like this for me would be one where a
bill of sale or some such document passes hands first.

I fully intend on buying him out soon. However I've just been screwed out of thousands by a unscrupulous property management company and had to sell my 95 CBR600 and most of my belongings to pay it before the courts came for me.

This is a way for me to get to use a bike cheaply until my cash flow recovers. So its not all one way.

I appreciate the concern and advice though. :-)

I'm collecting it Saturday morning. I'll take lots of pictures and start a new thread about it. I'll place the link on this thread too.

Default Same Boat

I'm in the same boat with a 88 Hurricane 1000. I'm just wondering how Free it's going to be after I tear it down.

I'm going to be taking all of the recommendations here as a plan of action for getting this back on the road as soon as possible.

Pictures to follow.

OK, so you INTEND to buy him out soon. What is HE going to charge you for the complete purchase price after YOU rebuild it for HIM. After you complete the rebuild, the bike will be worth more to him. So, what says he is going to just give it to you at the price it is worth in it's current condition, before rebuild. You mentioned getting "screwed out of thousands" once already. Maybe your trust instincts are not up to par. Think this through a lot more before going forward with this deal. As you can see there are quite a few of us looking out for your best interest.

While I will admit to going overboard with powder coating I would estimate my "free" cbr cost me around 2700. No doubt that I could have bought one in good shape for less but I loved working on it and now have a basically new bike. I lost all my money to the phrase "while I'm here I might as well..." Good luck!
