Default 1000f replacement

What would you choose to replace your CBR1kF? I'm going to fix a few odds and ends on mine and put 'er up for sale. For replacement candidates, I'm thinking a 98-01 VFR, a 'Busa that hasn't been molested, possibly a 954 or early GSXR1k but I know they are in a different class and last but not least, an RC51 if I can find a screaming deal on one. I only include the 51 because every once in a while, I see a heavily modified RC for sale realatively cheap. I can't think of too many other bikes that inspire bad ideas like the RC and long distance riding would be the ****s, but... hey, that bike talks to me!

I'll most likely end up with the VFR but I'm curious to see what you folks would replace your bike with.

A Boss Hoss,

If I had to get another bike and not a cbr1kf, I would have a closer look at the cbr1100XX (Blackbird), it's look a bit ordinary, but at 126kw compared to 99kw, it should be a thrill ride.

I think my next bike is going to be a curser. maybe a V-Star or something like it, Big engine and a lot of noise

I'd have to agree with MarkR.
For me, it would be an XX. I was actually looking for an XX when I found my 96.
I've got a ton of time on the VFR and almost as much on the 929. My Bro has a 2000 Yellow VFR and a 2000 Yellow/White 929RR. I love that VFR. It's very comfortable for 2 up, Injected V4 has great power and very smooth. It kind of reminds me of my 96 with less weight and definately less power. Fuel range is about the same with the same linked brakes as well.

I like the looks of the VFR and it is a smooth bike with great ergos, but I don't like the VTEC engine for the later models (I think 02 and up). The extra valves open up at 7000 rpm and that added power surge is not pleasant in the twisties when you suddenly need to apply your breaks in a turn[&:]. My next bike will be the new Triumph ST Sprint, but I can't afford $11k for a bike, so I've been looking at a SV1000s or an FZ1. The black bird is a great bike as well

Wow, pretty heavy on the Blackbird... I wish I could fit on one. I was on one that we had in the shop when they first came out and my knees hit the fairing. Maybe with an aftermarket seat it would fit better. I'll have to keep the XX in my mind as an option. Right now, I'm leaning very heavily towards a pre VTEC VFR. This won't happen until I sell my 87, so I've got plenty of time to shop.

The VFR seams a little low on power, what about a CBR1000RR, they look a little mean but the rear is high so properly not good for long or heavy Doubleling, only skinny chickie-babe's can get on the back.

The RR seams to be more powerful than the XX; I find that bike power specifications differ from site to site when browsing the web

I would love to have a 1000RR but I'm going to have some problems finding enough money for one since they are only a year old. That thing will run like a raped ape. No XX will keep up with an RR-no way, not ever. If I opt for that style of bike, I'll probably go for a GSXR1000 just because they have been out for a while. My problem is that I just can't get the RC out of my head. I just love that bike!!! I don't know how I can have such an emotional attatchment to it. It's heavy and it's a twin (I think the Honda V4 of old is the best motor ever). But the whine from the gear driven cams and the no BS approach really works for me. The harder that bike is ridden, the happier it is. My commute would absolutely suck *** on it... Must. Stay. Away!!!

My 2 biggest gripes with the VFR is the weight and the power. I can't complain about the weight-my CBR is a toad. The power shouldn't really be an issue either as 100hp is plenty for any street pace I'll ride at. But, I'm an American dammit and I want more power. hehehe For what it's worth, my CBR is putting 118 at the rear wheel. Thank Wiseco and very meticulous tuning to that one. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen the dyno myself. I've got to find that printout for when I sell this thing.
