I liked it , more of a copper orange than Tropicana Orange to me..............the matt
black set it off nicely. Hey Hawk in that thread did Harry T H put mirrors from a 96
on an 90 bike ??................Mine suck............too short and getting pretty cheesy
looking

^^^ Yeah I think Harry T H managed to fit later mirrors , he did mention how he did it somewhere , but I'm not sure how!

Yeah , it's more a copper orange/gold and the matt black totally seals the deal , tones it down perfectly . Though as Shadow mentions , I would have gone for a black seat to match the tank.

I know most recommend no bigger than 150 on the rear on the early ones.

You have a 3.5" rear wheel, right??

People do run 160's on the older ones on 3.5" rims, I do know that.... BUT I don't know if I'd do it. Your best bet is probably just to buy a later model 90+ rear rim and fit what's easy to get (180 if you like).
Bike tyres are NOT like CAR tyres - IE the wider the tyre, the more rubber on the road !

Just remember that as you go wider in tyre for the same width rim you are pulling the tyre in to more of a curve and actually reducing the contact patch of the tyre !!!!!!!!

With experience this can be used to balance a bike out by changing the grip levels at each end of the bike.

The reason the 180 on the later models is such a popular change is that a 180 is designed for a 5.5" rim. The 170 was used by honda to give the hurricane a "lighter" feel ( IE calculated less grip at the rear )

Dean0, you're absolutely correct.
This is why I wouldn't recommend a 160 rear on his rim. It will pinch the tire.
The problem that I think the OP is having (and many others) is that the tire selection sucks in these sizes, which is why I recommended that he upgrade to a wider rim that will accept the more common size tires.

Rookiekc Did an amazing job and a fantastic colour scheme made the bike look realy up to date! It may inspire you

Just goes to show what can be done!
I have to admit, that paint job is awesome!!!! Looking at it when its painted....I wouldnt ever thought is was 20+ years old!!!! I want it! LOL

And yes, I am running a 160 on the rear ( was on when I purchased it! ) So part of the thread is to find out whether its safe to ride with it, or does it have a negative impact on my handling and grip. If it does have a negative impact, I'll downsize to a 150 when I upgrade the tyres

Thanks for the info folks.

Based on the idea that I shouldn't go bigger than 150 on the rear, (which I'm fine with, as Sprock said, it's just tire availability) I'm gonna order some Metzeler M3's in 120 and 150 to replace my mismatched Bridgestone and Pirelli combo I have on now.

Grif, that's really nice of you to pretend that sprock said something someone could agree with.

But seriously, I think sticking with the 150 is a good idea. Let us know how you like the Metzeler's.
