1987 to 1991 swapping parts
I apologize for my ignorance, I'm at work and a local 1987 1000f has come up for sale, good body doesn't run right. I have a 1991 1000f runs fine, been crashed and hacked into and needs bodywork. Can I glom these two together (without major modifications) to make one good bike. Are there and challenges involved? I thank you for your patience, I have the manuals and such at home but I don't want to miss a deal on the bike (or buy it if it won't work).
The 1987 is often referred to as an SC21 and the 1991 is referred to as an SC24.
There are some threads about moving engines across each way, just do a google search or search this forum. You'll find them.
Bottom line, possible but some things will require a bit of extra wiring.
Good luck.

The body from the 1989 won't directly fit the frame of the 1991 - you could make it fit of course with brackets etc, but it's not going to be plug-and-play. You can move the engine etc from the '91 to the '89 with some minor frame and electrical mods, which might be easier, but you will lose the dual-linked brakes etc obviously.
Probably easier to fix the "doesn't run right" problem.
