You were told wrong. The problem with an F2 wheel is that the brake discs are just weird in the way they bolt to the wheel. What you want to do is use an F3 wheel. Those for the earlier 900's will accept the brake discs off the 900's wheel without modification and pretty much bolt right up. The 98-99 900 brake discs have a different bolt pattern to mount the brake discs, so you have to redrill the discs to match the mounting pattern on the F3 wheel. I have done that also before the 954/rc moc up.

Now I am onto the newest project on the bike. I have fit a rear RC51 5spoke wheel into the 900's swingarm, using 929 axle/cush/collars and RC51 wheel. High modification of the swingarm was needed. But so far it all works.
