shedding some pounds
Has anyone really tired to drop a lot of weight off their bike? I know aftermarket exhausts are lighter and if someone went mostly cf for plastics, just interested in what the number would be.
I wouldn't worry so much about a number as the drastic difference it will make in handling and performance.
I took the stock exhaust off of my bike (replaced with the akra HEX CF and a stainless mid pipe) and it DRASTICALLY improved my handling performance. Any weight you can lose from that high mount can makes less weight you have outside of the bike's center of gravity. From holding both parts in each hand I would guess that the aftermarket Akra was at least 10 - 15 pounds lighter than stock.

race fairings: remove both headlights
full exhaust: remove huge stock can/cat, replace with lighter materials
forged wheels
520 chain and aluminum sprockets
DOT race tires (as opposed to heavy *** sport-touring tires)
rearsets?
thats all i can think of

You can absolutely reduce the weight of your bike. Loosing that stock exhaust will definitely help. Aftermarket lightweight wheels will also help. You can loose things like battery trays/inner fenders, & remove all unnecessary plastics. You can trim your subframe & put on a race tail. Remove emissions equip.
Can't give you any weight numbers but keep in mind that it all ads up. On the track, every bit of weight loss counts & is reflected in lap times.
Keep in mind that lighter parts, in general, means many more dollars spent. For regular street applications, loosing the factory exhaust & changing to lighter wheels is probably the best mods you can do to loose weight.

obviously carbon fiber is insanely expensive but didnt know what prices were like on magnesium or aluminum. if i can buy 4 wheels for my truck for $1000 but cant get 2 wheels for my bike for under $2000 theres something not right about that!
