Quality Rim Tape

RE: Quality Rim Tape
I went with the TapeWorks silver reflective for my Graffiti. Took me some time to photoshop it to see what it'd look like, but I'm very pleased with the results. I got a little squiggly half-way through, but took a break and a beer and then finished it off likea surgeon!

RE: Quality Rim Tape
I just attempted to do mine and it looks like I had a seisure half way through!!!! Im going to attempt it again once I get it off the wheel now which is quite frustrating to do. Mine came with an applicator in which I quickly discovered is annoying to use. Is there a good technique any of you use that might make it a little easier to keep it consistent?

RE: Quality Rim Tape
I applied it lightly as I was going around, so I could easily unstick it and replace it. It helped me to get a visual edge by which to apply. For example, I made sure there was about a 2mm gap between the tape I was laying down and the raised part of the rim. Some people spin the wheel while holding a pencil to it, but I just made sure the spacing was the same all the way around the rim. Came out pretty good.

I got mine from a mail order catalog Motorsports, it came in a roll with a special tool to make sure that the tape went on properly and that it was positioned on the rim right. It was only $12.00 and did both wheels. Took about 20 mins to do, I went slowly so that the tape didn't have any wrinkles in it and made sure that it wasn't all wobbly or mis-aligned on the wheels. Its a reflective blue.

If you get tapeworks it comes 5 strips all attached to each other on the same roll and you cut the strips apart yourself. To make it easy be sure to cut as close as possible to the actual strip as you can. To explain this, the whole roll is about 5 inches wide and has 5 separate strips on it. As you cut each strip off cut right next to the strip as close as you can, that way when you go to apply them to the wheel you won't have any of the white backing layer or clear top layer throwing off your alignment/eye as you apply it. Trust me this will make sense when you start to put them on. Also take your freakin' time and as said above you don't have to stretch it or pull it too hard, just keep it pulled tight enough to prevent wrinkles and bubbles. And don't forget to make your last cleaning step a wipe with alcohol before applying the stickers, plenty of bottle cleaners leave a film or residue behind.
