Default RE: Oil Brand

I work as an on-site engineer ata small refinery where all the operators and mechanics now have hardons for Royal Purple. Theplant I worked at last year switched toRP inall their drivers when I worked there and haven't had any failures yet so they have hardons for RP also. The refinery hasa Royal Purple rep who comes in two or three times a month, last week we had a lunch and learn where a guy came inwith the rep andan apparatus containing a small oil sump supplying a rotating roller bearing attached to an electric motor wired throughan ammeter. An armature with a locked-up roller bearing had aspindle onitto put some weights on it to load the rotatingbearing. They put invarioustypes of 68 wt. lubes from around the shop were tested against RP 68 wt. oil. The RP lasted the longest (of course) and consumed the least power and the least wear. I still think it was a gimmick because it was a very small test at very mild conditions. Amsoil didn't fair too well, neither did STP, MOBIL 1, nor the OEM lube that came with the pumps.

I told the rep I wanted some of their motorcycle oil and I would run it for2 000 miles and send it for an analysis following 2 000 miles of M1 4T and sending the M1 for an analysis. He brought me a can of their chain lube, a can ofpenetrating lube, and a can of their gun oil instead. BTW, I compared the ingredients in their chain lube and penetrating oil, turns out both have the same exact ingredients (CAS numbers are identical), the exception being the spray nozzle on the penetrant creates a stream while the chain stuff creates a mist. I sprayed some of each onto a table and they both look and smell the same. I would still like to get some of their motorcycle lube and run an analysis of it, but their only distributor is over an hour and half away.

Also, your oil is only as good as your oil filter.

go to 1000rr.net and read anything by the person with the name scootr.

he works in an oil analysis lab. he recommends mobil 1 15w50 or repsol 4t based on the results he has seen over and over again testing the oil that came out of motorcycles. he also says that he wont put anything less than 15w in his bike.
