my bike got punched in the face
I was wondering if any of you hate the fact that only one light is for low and the other for hi? I want to kick my bike when i think of it.
Anyways what i was wondering is if anyone sees a problem with splicing wires from each side and runing them to the other side and using a dual element bulb like H4. Then both would allways be on and then use the switch for both to be on hi beam. H4's can easily be modified to fit in the H7 socket. I was wondering if my bike would melt away from over loading the circuit or something.
Any thought appreciatted

if you look closely you will see the reflectors are different!!!! you might be able to aim the right one down to get the look you are wanting!!! eats up the battery in heavy traffic though!

Search around a bit and you'll find a lot of info on this subject has already been posted. I remember seeing a link to an in depth conversion somewhere on here. The actual conversion isn't that difficult but you'll still end up losing the hi beam because the housing is built so that it reflects the H4 as a hi beam. What I'm trying to get across is that the mirrored surfaces are different on the hi beam side compared to the lo beam side.

Don't just toss in a H4 and jumper one side to the other, you will end up blowing a fuse....ask me how I know
It held up for a day or so.. I was trying to cheat [:@]
If you are going to do it, run new fused wires from the battery to a relay and use the stock wires to tickle the relay
The guys are right, the reflectors are different

well, there might be something you can't fix here. I don't know if the same pertains to motorcycles, but if I put my brights on on my car, the angle of the brights is a couple degrees higher. The brights don't just turn on and give more light. The aiming is different. So maybe on our bikes, the running light is straight, and the bright is angled higher... plus maybe a different lense as well...and lightbulb...i don't know. Now, i don't know much about electrical, but if you splice wires, and seperate them, would you get the same amount of voltage or power going to the lights? Wouldn't that be like making a fork in a river? You would have two different directions of flow, but they would be half the strength. You would have two crapy cockeyed lights instead of one powerfull good one. Or maybe you'll have too much power going through the wires cuz you seperated them.

RE: my bike got punched in the face
so i cut up an h4 bulb to go in the h7 socket and was in there good and snug. I left the wires alone and plugged it into the bulbs and it seemed to work fine but with only one element cause i didnt slice the wires. I wanted to see how they were like this cause it should either be the same or brighter at this point if i was going to modify the wires. Any ways the i went for a ride that nite and the bulbs were less bright and miss alighned. after looking closer at the problem its cause h4 is either longer or shorter of a bulb( i forget).
So put h7s back in and all is ok, I now dont think modifying the lights is worth it unless i do a hid conversion. So thanks for the replies.

Just run your high beam all the time. Not only will it make you more visible to cages, it will save you a lot of trouble messing with bulbs, wires, and fuses. Just remember to turn it off when your rpm's are low for more than a minute, because it will drain your battery quickly.

Hi;
I´m actually working in this mod. Both reflectors are different (one for low and one for high). Replacing the original high H7 for a Dual H4 will consume more (60/55).
U need an inversor relay to connect the right bulb.
I have a 05 F4i and it only gives 430W and leaves 210W after the whole electrical system works. So:
210W - 55W (low beam)= 155W left
155W - 55W (low H4)=100W left
155W - 55(low H4) AND 60W (high H4)= 40W left
IF you drive in hard traffic hour, add the fan.
40W - 80W aprox......... your alternator will not be able to deliver enough electricity AND charge the battery.
To make this mod, you must modify some wires, add a inversor relay and replace a 55W bulb for a 35W bulb. I´m working on this. Probably will put a 35/35W H4. I´ll let you know.
regards
