Default Lowering the right way

Hey everyone, I have a 1000 and my wire has a 600. She is only 5'2 and when we bought the car the dealership did us a favor(?) by putting a lowering link in the rear so now she can tippy toe it but the suspension is rock hard. She wants to take this bike to the track and I told her it was a no go unless we swapped back the link or do something to lower the suspension so she would have some suspension movement. I have heard alot of stuff about cutting springs and such and thought that would negatively effect the actual rate of the spring. I do want to dail it in somewhat for her weight(110) as she wants to start doing track days again. what do you think everyone, who is the guru of lowering suspensions?

Thanks

bikes aint cars, DO NOT cut the springs. Sounds like you need to back the preload off on the rear shock. You can also drop the forks down in the triples to 'match' how much it is dropped in the rear.

But there is no 'right way' to lower a bike. lol it hinders the handling no matter how many ppl want to say it doesnt. Its for as you stated, you wife and others who are vertical challenged, or for bling.

lowering the trees is no big deal and I thought of that already. I found that backing off the preload does nothing when you weigh 110lbs on the ride height. She needs a solid inch and a half lower than stock to tippy toe.

lowering it in the trees will bring the seat height down some too. You may need to get a custom shock set up for her and/or get a pro to adjust it. But I wouldnt just go hacking on the rear spring tho.

I know about not cutting the springs, thats why I am asking you guys here to see who may have an answer to find a custom shock or shop that would be able to do something. Asking where I am led to all the wrong answers in my book. Thanks though for your input.
