Default K&N: but dealer didn't recommend!

I took my '06 600rr to the Honda service center with an K&N on my back and told them to put it on for me, they said that all K&N filters they've seen on bikes shown visible signs of leaking dust from the edges into the valves as it never seals properly, and said there's no way to fix this. I told them to put it in anyways and thought to come here and invistigate! I'd appreciate if anyone could offer some more input.
Thanks.

lame service people... K&N, the definitive name in aftrmarket air filters. A slurp of grease, on the sealing surfaces... used on a bazillion dirt bikes, and my K&N fitted CBR. Find service people, that live in the real world.
Clean and free, Ripp'n

In general, with both filters clean the the K&N does NOT flow any more air than the stock filter, but when both are dirty the K&N will flow more air.

With that said you have to realize that the stock filter, even when dirty, is still capable of flowing more air than a stock engine can take in. I have also see first hand that the K&N's have a fit problem on the 600rr's and don't seal like they should.

If your after a quality aftermarket filter thats washable & reusable, BMC make by far the best quality one. Personally on my race bike I run the stock filter W/ the screen removed......

Like it was said before, the only reason why they said that about the k&n filter is because 1 they dont sell them at that dealer ship and or 2 they wanted you to buy from them! If you do your BASIC MAINTANCE you will be fine no matter what filter you use!
