ORIGINAL: Blue Fox

I said to hell with "rim tape" and just used regular pinstriping from any automotive store (NAPA has great high quality stuff)........and I just applied it very slowly, inch by inch. I took a couple of hours, but it's on there, and it looks great.

Screw that pre-bought crap. You're paying 5 times more for 5% as much tape. As far as taking hours, it took me about a half an hour for both wheels....BUT, considering I did it AFTER I had already pin striped my entire bike, I got pretty damn good at it.

Also, I tried to make one of those stupid applicators, but that ended up being garbage and only made it harder for me. Do it by hand, take your time. Having stands helps, but it's not a must.

Ugh, Danyilboon9. Your rim looks so perfect! I bought some red pin stripe from autzone for $4. I read the applicator thread but it didnt help. I tired cutting the shape of my rim for the '07 but then there was no place to sit the applicator against. So, I just ended up doing it by hand. This is going to sound weird, but I did mine at about 7pm. It was somewhat dark so the lighting casted a glare on my rims. So on my rim, I had a strip of white light that was reflecting off the rim. I then based where I was going to put the tape based on that glare, haha. Its actually pretty straight, but the bubbles! Oh, the bubbles. Also, wasnt sure how the END the tape. I kind of just overlapped the starting of the tape of about maybe 2mm.

bubbles? did you whip down your rim? When I did the wheels on my f2 I didn't have any bubble type things except where there was some dirt.

what size did you guys use? I used 1/8" on my f2 and liked it cuz it was subtle. I just bought 1/4" (silver)for my f4i(silver/red) did one wheel kind of quick to see if I would like it and wasn't to happy. I went with silver because the only rimtape most people do(around here atleast) is red.

Use a pencil and spin the wheel to draw a straight line. I used tapeworks.com stuff and it worked great. The pencil line makes applying it straight a breeze.

+1 to Foxy and Shirt.

I just used regular old pin strip for vehicles. Took my time and turned out great! I did not use a stand, I just wheeled the bike foward a couple inches at a time. ( having a stand would have made it easier but I didnt have one)

Key factor needed. PATIENCE

sooo i finally put the rim tape on..it came out pretty good..theres a couple of imperfections but i think i did pretty good... the only part that really pisses me off is the last side i did, i cut it and went to stick the end down, and i ripped it so it ended up being about a quarter inch short luckily there is almost a foot of extra tape and i made a little patch. really un noticible unless you are up close and personal to the rim
