Best mods?
Tommorow im picking up a stock 05 Honda CBR1000RR and was wondering whats the best mods to do to the bike. Im selling my current bike a 98 zx7r and when it sells i was going to use some of the money to upgrade my CBR. Here is just a short list of mods.
Yosh full system or two brothers
Power commander
K&N air filter
Michelin Pilot compund design tires
Stainless brake lines and galfer pads
520 chain and sprockets
How much power could i expect from the mods i want to do ? Do i have to have the power commander programed or is it plug and play ? Like does it automatically map its self for the best A/F curve. I was hoping to get around 160-165 whp out of it. Cosmetically im ordering a rear carbon fiber hugger, seat cowl, Hotbodies flush turn signals, ill ditch the stock mirrors for some aftermarket ones , carbon fiber air ducts and a corbin seat. heres a pic of how it sits right now

with the mods you have listed 150ish with a high reading dyno
dont bother with the yosh full
it doesnt make any more power than the yosh slip on
check out 1000rr.net and look for a post by speedy1000rr
he actually called the company and that was straight from them
two brothers
hit or miss some people like them some dont
if you want power go with an arata or sato
PC3
definete must if you change your pipes to get the full power out of them
you can use a downloaded map but a custom one will be better
it doesnt automatically map itself
it relys on a map that adjusts fuel table that adds or subtracts fuel based on rpm and throttle position
it could care less what the AFR is
K&N
dont do it
they cause a power loss on our bikes
go BMC race or leave it stock
520 conversion
renthal or AFAM
AFAM is generally voted the best
because it is hardened AL
for a chain the DID ERV3 is stronger than stock
pilot powers
good choice
stainless lines
galfer, goodrich
they are all the same
galfer pads are
ok
stay away from EBC
to be honest
the best mods you can do are suspension wise
the extra 5 (yosh) to 10 (arata or sato) hp that you get from a pipe and PC swap wont make that much difference if you cant keep the bike on the road
it already has more HP than 99.8% of the people out there will ever need.
check out www.rogueracing.org and read the write ups on the 1KRR springs and shock
the first thing that you should do with a bike is set the sag
you will find that with this bike and the stock suspension it is almost impossible
your first mods should be an ohlins shock and if you have the cash the road and track forks
if nothing else change the fork springs
either get the ohlins springs (from dan kyle because they send you the correct spring for your weight)
or a hyperpro spring kit that is a progressive spring that adjusts itself
if i had it to do over again i would have gotten the road and track forks before i spent all the cash on the go fast parts
dont take my word for any of this
go to 1000rr.net and search for all of these items
Great reply!
...and I agree with everything.
I would like to mention that the OEM shock is fine if you only ride street.
However, if you do any amount of track days at all, you'll think the $1,000
spent on a shock was the best money you could spend
