Default Flapper

The RAM air intakes that are under your lights, run back on either side of the fairings. There is a "flapper" in that run of ducting on either side. By default those flappers are open, allowing air to flow through the intakes into the engine. below 5000RPM (might be 4500, I am SURE someone will correct me if wrong:-) the flappers are CLOSED. this was done (in addition to the "flapper" in the exhaust) to quiet the bike down so that it would pass emissions.

All you have to do is open up the fairings, remove the vacuum line from each of the flapper solenoids, plug the lines, and close it back up. If you are really ambitious, some have gone so far as to remove the hardware to save weight.

Real easy mod, EXCEPT for the fairings part. don't let anyone tell you different, the fairings on these SUCK, in terms of removal and fitting. HOPEFULLY it will get easier with time:-)

This set up is not the same as the 04-07's were. The flappers are OPENED by vacuum. Check the 1000rr. forum and the procedure is outlined there.
