Exclamation 2008 Honda 1000RR oil burner

I just bought my bike brand new; and I got my 1st oil change at 400 miles. I noticed my oil light came on after only 2200 miles. So I went to the auto store and bought enough oil to just make it home. When I got home I called my mechanic and he said he heard the same problem happening to other new 08 1000 RR. So I called Honda (1-866-784-1870) and spoke with someone to document the oil burning problem. He said that he hasn’t heard this problem before but if enough people called then there would probably be a recall. So... I suggest everyone with this oil burning problem to call so Honda can be aware of this problem, and hopefully fix our bikes. so make sure when you call you tell them to document this issue cause if you dont they wont.

Either that is BS or he is a new hire. Do a search on some of the other 1000rr dedicated sites and you will see what I mean. Only if you go though over a quart every 800 miles will they fix it under warranty. Sucks to hear though.

What if you ride 5 miles a month? Still OK?

You got that as an answer directly from them? That would **** me right off. Can't you just ride like 3000 miles in a month, and document all the oil fills you need?

On the other hand, those are high performance engines and it should be expected they will use a bit more oil with the compression they run and the RPMs they hit than a car. For a car 1 quart per 3000 miles is usually considered normal range.

jus because they have not come back to you, doesnt mean that they are not having oil consumption issues. i have read this several places and go through it EVERY day with my 08LE. i have to check the oil EVERY friggni time i ride. that is a bit of a process with the dipstick versus sight glass. takes a few minutes with having to start it for a few secs then stand it up then pull stick, wipe then reinsert. not very cool for a new bike.

hmmmm.....sounds faulty 4sure, im in cali an maybe the 49 state'rs r having more of an issue than our models but about 70% of our customers get the 1st services and other regularly scheduled services (4k, 8k, etc) done here and we havnt heard anything so far. but the post above about every1 calling might b a good idea...doesnt hurt 2 try i guess, altho if sumthings not right as in recall issues 9 times outa 10 honda will address it 2 the public b4 the customer even kno theres sumthing wrong with the bike...

jus my 2 pennies

That issue is a big part of why I decided to wait on getting a new fireblade. Now, I'm just hoping it gets a nice face-lift for 2010.
