I did not have time to try anything today... I did check the timing it is on. i have pulled the carbs so i could try letting it dry out from the the gas i am goin to pull the plugs and make sure they are not ruined from being flooded.

I never had the 90 engine running. I bought the bike from someone who had it pulled apart they said it was goin to be a project bike but lost interest. So i put it back together went to start it up and coolant poured out of the head. So i bought a running engine.

I put the running engin in. Swaped the pulse generater. But now that you have mentioned Gogar i never did switch the 9 toothed sprocket. i didnt see a difference between the 89 and 90. I will check this tomorrow. I do know the pulse generator is good i did check the ohms on it and it measured 473.

Thank you everyone for helping me through this. It is really becoming a headache.

also the guy i did buy the motor from still has the wire harness from the 89 but does not have the cdi. He said he would just give me the wire harness so all i would need is the cdi. I am also thinking about doing this.

I did call the local honda dealer to see if they could test my cdi but they said they could not.

OH yeah there's no way the bike would start without swapping the trigger sprocket AND the pickup. If your CD box is a '90, then you need the sprocket with more 'fingers', and the two-wire pickup assembly.

You have all the parts you need, stop trying to make it hard on yourself.

Two pics: The one with 7 fingers is the '89, the one with 9 fingers is '90.

Get the '90 sprocket, the '90 pickup assembly, and the '90 CDI and I bet you'll get it to run!

There are so many threads like this, I am getting lost with my posts lol... After a failed starting attempt after say 20/30 seconds, pull out a couple spark plugs. Dry, moist, or soaking wet? What color are they? bet yet take a picture...

they are wet i wouldnt say soaking wet but most definitely wet and black i will get some pics gotta dig for the camera

and goin over all of my wiring there is one yellow and black wire that i do not know where it goes. Its located up by the instrument cluster i looked in my ,manual and it seems to be the kickstand wire but cant find where it would plug into. I will get a pic of that as well.

Is there a way to by pass the kickstand switch?

There is a way, but I don't know that part of bikes very well. Others here do though. Just do a search, it has been asked.

The black plug concerns me though. Plugs should be light brown or tan. Either you are super super rich (which will give you starting problems), or you have oil in your combustion chamber which could mean bad rings, bad gasket (both which may prevent starting) or just bad valves.

Do you have a compression gauge? I recommend running a compression test.

Hopefully just rich. A friend said he has gauges to test the compression and also gauges to make sure the carbs are sync and he will also adjust the carbs so hopefully its just dumping too much fuel. Get back to ya wednesday and let ya know what happens.
