Default is there easy way to set up floats

Hi All

I have revving issues with my cbr1000f-j, had some great advice from this site already, which has sorted a lot of issues out. Bike ticks over fine when in neutral it will only rev to about 7000 rpm and sounds awful, when riding it pulls clean to about 4000 rpm then shuts down, it will only pull again when I`ve changed gear and is below 4000 again. I`ve been told it could be floats in carbs, how do I check these and is there a easy way to ensure all floats are even, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

Pete

Pull the carbs and clean. Could be a blocked jet. Otherwise, when the carbs are off and the float bowl removed, angle the carbs so that the float tine is just barely touching the float valve. Measure from the float bowl mating surface to the top of the float. Float should be 9mm for UK models and 9.5mm for US models.

Hey Pete, sounds like it may not be getting air. In the past, members have reported that the "h" shaped part in the soft rubber air intake was missing and it would collapse at RPM choking the bike.

It wouldn't hurt to look there first before pulling the carbs apart.

Hi timbuctwo,

Thank you for advice, can I ask for a bit more detail, is this on the inlet rubbers, or on the airbox side?

Thanks in advance

I see by your other post that you found the clogged vent.
That's great news finding the trouble.
