Default Sprocket change problem...............

I just replaced sprockets on my 91 cbr1000f.. Everything going great till i went to put the housing back on and couldn't get it to snug up. tried wiggling back tire to get it on but nothing.. Realized bike was in gear so tried to press clutch in and hard as a rock. tried pressing down on the gear lever nothing, cant find neutral. any ideas how to get my bike out of gear with a hard clutch..(besides tryin to bleed it... if i have to, whats the easiest way?)

Make sure your clutch rod/pin is positioned correctly. You may also need to compress the clutch slave cylinder a little bit with the rod to get it all back together. Slow and easy, though.

You need to remove the front sprocket cover and see if the rod is in place in the clutch piston. It sounds like you have bottomed out the clutch piston. Do not use force. You cloud damage the shift forks and don't squeeze the clutch lever or you could damage the sprocket cover.

The clutch piston pushes the rod across the engine to the clutch that is on the right side of the engine. As Trout mentioned, you need to position it correctly.

Line the sprocket cover up with the 3 bolts catching , push firmly dead center of the
sprocket cover with your hand ......you'll feel it start to give as the slave cylinder
retracts back , then start to ratchet down your 3 sprocket bolts gently and equally
Getting that slave cylinder to go back takes quite a bit of force by hand !

Make sure your speedo drive hex cup is lined up with the center bolt of the front
sprocket too...... !!!

And it's not a requirement for it to be in or out of gear in any event it has no
bearing on the cover going back on.

does the reservoir cap have to be off when putting the slave cylinder housing back on?
