Default re carb

you dont need to rejet it you need to do a carb job on your bike. in order to do it you need to put a merc guage on it

so if my bike runs fine on a stock slip on, but with an aftermarket slip on it runs rougher and pops, then that means i dont need to rejet but i need a carb job?

yes, it will work. the only difference is that the '97-'98 comes with a '142' jet which the '95-'96 doesn't. if you follow the directions, instead of going with the '140' and '142' jets, go with '138' and '140' instead. when you get it and read the instructions, you'll understand what i'm saying.

popping and back firing means you're probably running lean, in which case you should re-jet ASAP. jetting carbs is enough work, but rebuilding you top end is a LOT of work. until you get the jet kit, dont run your bike real hard. and it depends on what exhaust you have, i ran with a gp pipe with almost no packing.

edit- you could just go with the 140 and 142. thats what i did. you just don't need to turn the pilot screws as much.
