Ever had a helmet stolen?
My girl is always nagging me for not locking my "expensive, new helmet" up or taking it with us. I don't think there are that many people that would steal a helmet, but... maybe I'm wrong.
At the same time, I think people that leave their leather jackets laying on their bikes are crazy. And I guess that logic doesn't make sense, seeing how my helmet cost more than my jacket.

I would never leave my helmet with my bike, it goes where I go. Even if it is locked up, it can still get knocked/hit and abused by idiot passer-bys that don't know how to respect other peoples' stuff. Just like you, my helmet costs more than my jacket so why would I just leave it lying around where it can get damaged or stolen. And if it does get stolen, how you gonna ride home?
On a side: A couple weeks ago I was at a bike shop and I put my helmet on the countertop to look at something. Some stupid little brat kid who's in the store walks by and decides to slap my helmet, for no reason at all. If he wasn't with his mom I woulda slapped the hell outta him, just to see how he liked it, and then told him off.

Ack... never happened to me, but I just got an email from a friend who had it happen last night. Ran into a gas station quickie-mart real quick, left it on the mirror (something I NEVER do), came out 20 seconds later, and it was gone.
AND just two weeks ago, he had DROPPED his other helmet, so he doesn't trust it. I told him it just gives him an excuse now to go buy the HJC Carbon Fiber he's been drooling over.

I've never had a helmet nicked yet and I hope I never do either, sorry it happened to you though. I never let my helmet outta my sight when i'm out, even filling up at the petrol station and I could still see it if I did. I must admit I think people who either just leave their helmet or even lock it to the bike are taking a hell of a risk in doing so. 1.that it can get nicked, 2.some idiot can decide to damage it in some way. so I prefer not to leave mine on it's own. Plus it wasn't cheap when I got it either (£260) so I don't wanna have to pay out that much again cos someone 'half inched it'.
lidless, hey do you leave your girl friend, unattended tooo??????!!!!!!!!!! Dude,!!!! click your heels togather, 3 times... my gloves cost 150$... they come in, w/ the skidlid too. Just kidd'n, about your chick...HEY... what size lid is that????????!!!!!!!!!!!... JUST KIDD'N!!!!!!!!! I don't even leave it locked up on the bike, all it takes is 1.5 sec.,w/ a blade. Help save them from themselves!!!!!!!!!! Clean and free, Ripp'n
There's always someone somewhere who's willing to steal anything they can make a buck off of - or just steal for the heck of it. I've never had mine stolen 'cause I never leave it where it can be stolen. It's like leaving valuables in your car - Never ever do it - sooner or later someone will steal it It seems that no matter how many times people are warned against this, there's always someone who is positive they are the exception - inevitably they're left crying the blues.

Helmet Stolen just 2 weeks ago. Actually, 2 helmets and a pair of custom gloves. Asses. I had the helmets on the mirrors and gloves tucked down in front of gas tank. All in my locked underground parking. Gotta love people!
I ususally don't leave it on the bike or let any of my gear more than 10m from me. As for my helmet, I don't want it dropped and have to buy another one. I've seen too many people put their helmet on the bike only to see it fall and go CRACK on the pavement; Then they have the gall to put it on their heads in spite of my pleading with them to buy a new one.
I VERY rarely leave my helmet on my bike. If I do, it'll only be for a few seconds or so...
Side note: Couple weeks ago I had it hanging on the passenger peg (drive side) while I was gassin' up and stupid me knocked it off. Thankfully it didn't drop far - max. 8 inches to the ground. Got a couple small knicks in the rubatone finish... other than that she's fine. But if it woulda dropped any farther I'da been buying a new lid. Damn, maybe I should have, could get the new carbon fiber lid I want!
