Track day Grattan Raceway
Got to finally hit the track on this past sunday (7-31-11) at Grattan raceway (MI). This event/Trackday was hosted by SportBikeTrackTime and I must say they did a very good job at hosting this event. The day was well organized and very timely. All of the times were right on the mark and the daywent on very smooth.
I was in the Novice group since this was my first time on the track. in the novice group there were 9 seperate groups ranging on speed and confidence. These groups could change throughout the day to suit the rider for the group which went very smooth. They fit riders with similar skill levels and want to go fast but do it wisely.
The group I was in started at group 7 since none of us had track experiance. by mid waythrough the day our group had been moving up into the 3 spot. The 3 other people and myself all seemed to click well together so we rode well together.
The instructors were very down to earth and very polite and helpful. They helped alot with riding instructions and helping you learn how to properly learn and manovour the track.
even met a fellow CBRForum member at the trackday and got to talk with them and enjoy a familiar ish person who was amazingly nice and polite "convertedRice"
Overall I would highly recomend in these trackdays by this group!
This being said I also had a very bad part of the day. A person in my group who was 1st in line behind the instructor went down aroun a turn(lowsided thankfully).... I was taking a wider line around this turn when he went down and to avoid hitting him I attempted to abort the turn and vere right. I was unable to do so quickly enough and hit his motorcycle and flew over the handlebars.
Thankfully neither of us were majorly hurt and neither were the bikes.
I received the worst and had to receive 8 stitches to my hand.(my fingers impacted the ground so hard and fast it tore a laceration in my hand below my fingers. So my right hand and shoulder are out of commision for a while.
The bike just needs a new bar end and a complete rear fairing.
Pictures/Video later when I get thee chance
(sry for spelling and such cause of my only typing with 1 hand and no spell check at work)
