Are there any good write ups on how to start doin stoppies? I have no luck with the search function anymore. It always comes up as nothing found or too broad. Maybe on another site or something.
Stoppie's are the next stunt people try to learn usually after the basic wheelie and stand up wheelie. Most riders start out learning these when almost coming to a complete stop and then grabbing alot of front brake and lifting the rear tire off the ground. There is nothing wrong with learning it this way, except you have to be careful of your speed. If your moving to fast when you grab the front brake, the bike will flip over and this accident will cost you alot of money.
Its best to start out at a slow speed and work up to getting the rear wheel high off the ground. Keep your arms stiff and grip onto the bike by squeezing with your legs. Start off by coming to a complete stop and only lifting your rear wheel off the ground by 1 foot or so. Once your comfortable with doing these, build up a little more speed and pull in the front brake alittle earlier. This time lifting the rear wheel about 1-2 feet in the air. Keep repeating this process until you work up to balance point. You will know when you reach the balance point because you will be able to hold your stoppie in the stoppie position for a few seconds before the rear wheel falls back down. Just remember not to go beyond the balance point! Plastics are not cheap and a 400lb motocycle doesnt feel very good coming over on top on you!!!
Practice these on a clean & flat surface! Look out for dirt, rocks, sand, water, oil, etc. Anything that could cause your front wheel to slide or wash out!
Remember, that you are in 100% control, if the stoppie should come up to quick, let off the front brake instantly. This will keep you from going over! There is always time to try another one!!!
Once you mastered the basic stoppie, you are now ready to learn how to do a Rolling Stoppie!

Most people think the best way to learn how to do endos is baby stoppies--you know, roll in at five mph, jam on the front brake and try not to get thrown off when the back end shoots skyward. These are so dangerous--you grab all the brake at once, causing the fork to dive too fast and the rear end to rebound and kick up, and it's easy to lose the front end or flip over when you hit the bottom of the suspension travel.
[left] [size="4"][font="arial,helvetica,monaco"]A better way is to come into your practice area fast and then slowly, smoothly grab more brake. When you feel the brake pads starting to bite, throw your weight up a little and grab just a bit more brake. If you do this methodically, you'll soon float the back wheel a few feet and everything will be smooth--none of the sharp, abrupt braking or suspension loading that will cause the front wheel to wash out or the suspension to bottom. When it feels like you're getting up too high, let off the brake slowly and you'll be back on the ground. When you're new at it, anything more than two feet will make you say, "Oh my god, I'm going to flip over." what does it mean when the front tire locks up?
I was trying them last night, going about 30-40 (not looking at the gages but somewhere around that) I would squeeze the brake alittle at first to compress the forks then squeeze harder. i was trying to put wieght on the front. but instead of the back tire coming up i just stopped very quikly and the front locked several times when i would grap more brake after the forks compressed. i didnt fall but i definatly didnt feel close to doing a stoppie. what is causeing the front lock-up? am i grabing the brake to gradually or is it because i am not bouncing the rear end.
