first wheelie today
Today on the way home from a friends house i was messing around on a back road in 1st gear id bring it up to about 8500-9000 rpms cut off the throttle and then snap it back on and the front end would come up about maybe a foot then i scooted my *** back brought it up to about 8500 rs again snapped off the throttle and pressed on the clip ons and then snapped back on the throttle and it came up like two feet very exciting the bike is setting down by itself though ? its a stock 2006 cbr 600rr with 300 miles on it Anyway my questions are why is the bike setting down by itself im not hitting the rev limiter and its setting down real smooth but why ? and should i just quit with the power wheelies and keep practicing clutching them up i have never got one up clutching but i heard that power wheelies are not a good way to learn wheelies especially in first gear
Oh wait i was so stoked about wheelies i just went out riding again now im clutching them up in first sitting down to but i have to rev it really high about like 10-12 and then slip the clutch out

don't look at your tach man, go by sound and feel. i suggest you try staggered 1st gear and clutch it.
A) its safer (i don't care what you power wheelier's say, this is the safer method)
B) you can get it higher quicker (just gotta get used to the "snap"; plus you aren't doing 60 in first when you set her down)
C) you can now see where you're going
D) they look cooler
just take it slow and get used to the snap. once you get that you'll NEVER do another power wheelie.
now go practice....

Ya im done with power wheelies clutching them up feels so much better i clutch it and then rev it a couple times like vroom vroom vroom and on the third one i slip the clutch out it actually feels like im dumping the clutch but it pops up and i set it down right away sorry about the vroom thing but i dont know how else to explain it im going to wait till i get my frame sliders before i try riding them out and is clutching them up in second pretty much the same ?
Here man lol. USE SOME periods!!! I have a couple extra ones here, you can have em...

Sorry, I had to. I had to read your post like 3 times before it made sense. I guess if you type like that everyday it's easy.
Anyway, Sounds good. Remember to COVER that rear brake in case you need to catch one. And that's how you get to ride em longer. Go staggered as said above. Keep practicing. SHould come to you quick.

ive heard everyone say stay staggered does that make it easier? my bike doesnt have a LH passenger peg so i cant go staggered till i get one, but why is that better?

one foot on the left passenger peg and the other covering the brake. when you are rolling stock, it helps with the weight distribution. you can also bring it back more w/o feeling like ur gonna fall off.

*****!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have yet to be able to get clutched ones up much but the few I have done.....Yes indeed it pops up much quicker, BUT more predictably. (I just need to grow some bigger ones to get used to the speed at which the wheel comes up). I have stuck to roll-ons to get the feel of the wheel being up etc. I agree I don't like having to go as fast when doing the wheelie. I can start a roll-on doing like 20 MPH or so in 1st gear and pop that sucker up and when I set it down I'm usually doing like 35-40 MPH easy. That is why I want to learn clutched wheelies. I have been reading up on them as much as I can and still can't get the revving/sliding correct. I either end up just lurching the bike ahead or I get the thing to come up (But seems to come up way too fast/high to feel controlled) As for the whole staggered thing. I still do my wheelies in a sit down position since for me, it feels more controllable for me. But to get prepared to start staggering, what I have done, is do some putting around with my feet in the staggered position. Maybe this isn't a good idea, maybe it is. It's seemed to get me a little more comfortable with the feel of it. Keep in mind I am in NO way an "expert" or "veteran" when wheelies are concerned. Just adding my .02 based on my experience. I ride a 91 CBR 600 F2 and have zero problems getting the front wheel to come up. What I have found with the roll-ons/power wheelies like you are describing, it's much easier if you don't try and get the bike in its power band, and throttle it, let off, and then throttle again. I have seen some suggesting this on the net. It's my experience this is SO not neccessary and dangerous. Not sure if thats what your doing but whats been working for me is just getting my bike to like around 6-6.5k RPM (Thats my power band range) and just letting off the throttle totally followed by a quick snap on. It comes right up without that annoying lurching/bouncing. As for the reason the bike is "Setting the wheelie down itself" that is NOT whats happening. Whats happening is you are setting it down by not having the throttle control down yet. That seems to be normal, as it happened to me alot too when I first started. Don't be discouraged, it just means your natural instincts are intact. LOL Once you get comfortable with the feel of the wheel coming up you will start to become ok/comfortable with not letting off the throttle as soon as the front wheel comes up or starts to rise etc. My suggestion is to do like I did and just be happy practicing getting the feel of popping the wheel up, then worry about riding them out a little. But like I said I'm no expert. My philosophy is take one step at a time, get comfortable with the first step, move on to the next...SLOWLY.
The nice thing about learning the way I have, at least to me, is the roll-ons seem to be easier to get the wheel up, so it's made it easier for me to at least get used to the feeling of that, I am now working on getting comfortable with riding them out short distances (Throttle control), and slowly working on clutching them here and there. That way I'm not just starting off clutching them and having to get used to the wheel snapping up so quickly which makes me nervous, and having to get used to throttle control, etc. all at once.
I can't wait until I can quit doing roll-ons and clutch mine comfortably though. Good luck and keep it safe.
