Never used one of those guards before. Pretty much all of us stunters, and for sure the lot guys all use cages. Not sure you will get a lot of help here Jay. This is also a pretty slow section.

Never used Bondo before. I guess I could then paint (?) after smoothing the bondo.

You have a pic of the cover to post up? Bondo will adhear to the cover, but I'm not sure I'd wanna put it on too thick since it will not dissipate heat 1ike the raw aluminum would.

I need an app to reduce the filesize before posting. I'll look tomorrow. But thanks for the idea about cooking the Bondo.

I may be doing the same for some smaller scraches on my stator cover myself...

What do you think of using JB Weld? Can it be thinned? YES .I'm sure it can be painted. YES YES.

I can definatly vouch for JB weld
I've used it on many different things
tank, side cover , gear case, oil pan, plastics[:@]
getting it to look nice takes practice but it defintaly will reinforce any damaged areas, change the consistancy by changing the mixture of resin to hardener, it will allso change the final hardness and strength.
Id finish up with a dremel to get the texture and shape looking nice.... do the shaping a few hours before it has totally cured... then paint once its cured
bam !!!! anything can be fixed with JB
