Default fairing on the front wheel

What's the purpose of the fairing that covers the front wheel? i'm thinking of removing it.

not much, you know, just to keep rain dust dirt road debris and any other crap you run over from hitting your face... but by all means get rid of it

I took mine off for awhile...but I live in Seattle and theres a ton of construction everywhere in the city and I noticed I got hit with a bunch of road crap, so I put it back on. However It did look cooler off of the bike.

i dont run one, not a problem. crap is going to hit your headers before its going to hit the radiator.

i didn't run one, and in the wet, it was kind of a pita because even though it's raining, i still flip my visor up at stoplights, and when taking off, dirty road water would hit my face. and it does get dirt and the like all over your jacket.

but i think the stock ones are way too bulky on non faired bikes

I can imagine you can find an aftermarket one to replace the stock one. I haven't looked into this much, as I plan on making my own I don't like the stock ones either.
