not so sure how much a pair of hiking boots will help to cover this. but wear ankle protection,
burning a hole in your ankle and seeing milky white, because your ankle scraped your crank case is no fun.(personal, above is not me)

Nothing new here, 2 Bus drivers in my city have been fired for that as well.
