Ah the RX-8. Man, I do not like they looks of those things. Overall a pretty darn decent car though. Just not my style. At the last track-day I instructed at, I spent 30 minutes in the passenger seat of one. Bone stock, all the way to the brake pads! The driver was new, and he just kept it in 3rd the whole time so he could concentrate on braking and steering. Man, I think the car was somewhere in the 9,000 RPM range at the end of the long straight. Sounded like a pissed off lawn mower!

Here's some pics from that event: http://www.wrongmotor.com/gallery/dega_oct_19/index.htm

Yep, I just love that sound!! The asthetics are pretty much a love or hate kind of deal, there is no middle point. As for me, I love it. still find the FD the sexiest car on the planet. but would rather have the real world usability of the 8.

My first RX-7 was a not stock '87 Turbo II. The rotary was so smooth, when I first got it, I had to check the tach at stop lights because I thought the engine wasn't running! The sound of the rotary revving up combined with boost building was very addictive! The instant torque of the LS-1 combined with 6 gears, a 4.11 rear end and a 2800lb car is addictive too though! A sub 4 second 0-60 on tires make any passenger giggle like a little kid being tickled.

Ohh yea. They are two diferent beasts and each have their strong and week points. The instant torque and on demand power slides of the LS1 must feel like you just unleashed the devil and are holding onn for dear life. Fun times indeed!! But the aparently endless revs and smooth power of the rotary is what gets me going. Its almost like reving the bikes engine. not very torky but what a rush!!

Darn Oreo, you beat me to the punch...

Yep, the sound of a naturally aspired engine reving to the stratosphere is a thing of beauty.

Although LS-1 powered chest pounding burnouts bring happiness as well

I love the sound of the renesis rotary, only second to the 16000 RPM wail of an formula 1 racecar in full song
