Is this the new style of speedometers? Hah! One of the several reasons I have to replace the gauge cluster.

Nah. It used to start at 0 like a normal speedometer. But as you can see the stupid thing is melting somehow. The 12 is almost gone and there are certain flare-ups from some sort of heat. The thing has just gone to hell basically. Not sure why though

Do you have a double bubble windscreen? There's something about some of them that when the sun hits it just right, it turns the windscreen into a magnifying glass and melts the gauges.

To be honest, I have no idea what kind of windscreen I have. It's chrome I know that. Let's say that the windscreen is the problem, would putting a towel over the gauge while it's in the parking lot prevent melting?

Here's an old thread about it: https://cbrforum.com/forum/showthrea...le+bubble+melt

Guys used bandanas to cover their gauges. Or blacked out the lower portion of the windscreen.

What a pain in the ****. I have replaced the gauge cover twice, and now had to fork up $175 for a new cluster. You would think by now that they would have created a solution in the windscreens to alleviate this problem.

Thanks for your help. I had posted a thread about my gauges melting and no one replied. I wish one of those guys would have posted a picture of the painted windscreens that they made to help the melting issue.

There's nothing to see really. Just take your current windshield off, tape / mask off the part you want clear and hit it with a rattlecan.

Just paint the inside. That way wind and road debris won't work at the paint.

What kind of spray paint? Just normal black?

Honestly I'd think any opaque or solid color would block the magnifying glass effect.

Looking at the pic in your sig I can't tell if it's stock or aftermarket.
