RE: Fenway flyover...
April 11, 2008
Montpelier, VT--
A Vermont Air National Guard F-16 pilot has been grounded for making unauthorized moves over Boston's Fenway Park during this week's Red Sox home opener.
Four fighter jets were scheduled to take part in the flyover. However, one pilot was late joining the formation. The Air Guard says he was going too fast, and zoomed under and over it at an altitude as low as 1200 feet. The formation is usually flown at 5000 feet.
The Air Guard also says there was no danger to fans at the ball park and the people in the stands seemed to enjoy the moves.
The pilot's name was not released. The Guard says he was not grounded as punishment, but will get remedial training so a similar incident won't happen again.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
