Default Elderly woman slammed

I saw this on another forum and was amazed by the difference in perception of it from the general public and from cops. Please discuss:
Background: The woman is 87 years old, some unknown event has happened to her and she carries a steak knife in her hand, she is wondering around the parking lot asking for her daughter. Someone called the police and told them just that. The police pull up and confront the obviously confused old lady.

Do you think the female cop was justified in slamming the woman to the ground? Do you think she could have approached things differently and had a better outcome?

I totally think a better outcome could have came from this. I mean look at the lady even if she was trying to cut someone she still could have been dealt with without slamming her on the ground.

Christ!! That could have been handled a lot better than that. I mean, that lady could hardly walk as it is.

if you have been trained to take down ppl telling you they are going to cut you what would you have done. that leo has no idea what the women is capable of and she was swinging the knife at the leo. that was the best possible way.

I'd go along with that, have seen the weakest looking people inflict the most
damage on officers sometimes........there is no simple way to render harmless somebody
with a knife ...........sometimes you have to move fast
the perp could just as easily decide to stick themselves ............you never know
what's going on inside their heads.........shocking as it looks a bump
on the head is not the end of the world .......ideal no not at all................
absolutely necessary hard to tell from a video without seeing a close up of
the lady's face and hearing the precise conversation.

Certainly not a glorious moment for that PD either way.

WOW!! LAWSUIT!! I agree that the LEO is trained to REACT that way.........BUT all that needed to be done was to incapacitate the arm with the knife while the other officer helped to restrain her. I would be afraid of broken hip, arm, skull etc!

Now do you think she will heal quickly? Not!

Actually I think most law enforcement agencies (I know for certain true of the FBI) are trained to shoot a suspect armed with a knife within a certain range.

The officer prolly broke policy going for a physical takedown instead of a ranged one (shooting, tazer, pepper spray).
