Deisel engines are pretty wild when you think about it's differences to the gasoline engine.

Gasoline engines share the same basic 4 principles as the deisel. The difference is in how the mixtures is combined for combustion.

Gasoline engines use a spark plug, diesel engines have glow plugs that, "super heat" the oxygen inside the cylinder and heats it to such a degree that when the injector blasts fuel into the mixture, it ignites the mixture because of built up heat instead of using a spark.

It also has a compression ratio of unbelieveable readings (diesel). I think it's somewhere in the field of... bah I don't remember.

But the compression is where you are able to ignite the mixture like it does and adds crazy torque.

Hey Jared - yeah I can see how your bike tranny may have been, "simple" as you put it, lol. I'm going to have to chew on my problem and see where I get with it. Thanks for the heads up though.

Your job looks like fun. I miss working with the guys, getting dirty and building ****. Lot's of good ol' fashioned joking, ribbingand teasing that goes on. I miss it!

Nice to see you back Kid.
Just to add to your post. The Glow plug (or grid heater) is only used when you start the engine when its cold.

"Both diesel engines and gasoline engines covert fuel into energy through a series of small explosions or combustions. The major difference between diesel and gasoline is the way these explosions happen. In a gasoline engine, fuel is mixed with air, compressed by pistons and ignited by sparks from spark plugs. In a diesel engine, however, the air is compressed first, and then the fuel is injected. Because air heats up when it's compressed, the fuel ignites."

Damn it seems like it would take a day just to unplug all the wires and liquid lines before you could even start taking cab bolts off.
How much time is saved by doing it that way? Or is just the ease of actually getting in there to work.

Hope that was done under warranty...Not a cheap job...and add to that the cost of $4.00+ diesel prices..
