Anyone know of any cool places to ride in Texas? Or of any kind of events going on this year?

Texas hill country is nice. There's some really nice scenery to enjoy. In particular, I used to take the 290 West out of Austin thru Dripping Springs, thru Fredricksburg, & over to I-10 W. That is a nice ride. Don't remember if it was Harper or where, but you're riding along in the middle of nowhere & all of the sudden, you're in the middle of the town square that looks like something out of an old western movie. Outside the sheriff's office, the sheriff & deputies were standing there in appropriate western garb - gunbelts w/ six shooters & all, smoking cigars. :-) Folks there were friendly there as well.

Talking Texas Ride

I grew up in College Station, Texas. We would ride out towards Huntsville, on 30, and then turn on FM 3179/Coon Trail Rd. That runs into FM 1791 which takes you through a little bit of the Sam Houston National Forest. It has a lot of curves and some open straight roads and is a nice view. Take FM 1375 East and you can cross I45, and take 150 and get into the big part of the Sam Houston National Forest. OR Take FM 149 East and it will come out in Montgomery and you can take 105 East to I45 South and get into Houston coming through the Woodlands and Conroe and Spring. You can ride the Beltway 8 and go around Houston, or take I10 West and go towards San Antonio/Austin areas. I would not recommend I10 East and the roads to Louisana SUCK, especially 10 E. This is just what I would ride when I lived in Texas. We did it at least 1-2 a month. Mixing it up between 1375 East across I45, and taking FM 149 to Montgomery and ride into Houston, or to the Galleria Mall, or what have you. Sorry it is lenghty, but I enjoyed riding these roads, especially through "The Forest."
