long trips
ok so i dont know if im biting off more then i can chew but i figured i would go visit my cousin in utah. i live in southern cali and figured i would leave here around 4ish so that by the time i hit vegas it wont be 120 or so out there. im definatly gunna have a camel back on me cause i dont think ill be able to do this without one. can you guys give me some pointers on what im looking at? im looking at 430 miles one way.
I sent a long PM reply that should go here as well... you may as well post it as I don't have it.
Long story short, prep the bike, prep yourself, practice, stay comfortable, it'll be fine.
I would advise not riding with a backpack that far, if you can get bike luggage do. If you don't want to buy luggage then a 5-10$ bungee net can secure your backpack to the tail. Just make sure you secure the bags straps so they can't blow around in the wind, or get caught up in anything. I would also consider a tank bag for putting the camel bag in... no weight on your back, convient location, gives you a spot to put gas receipts, spare ear plugs, spare gloves, maps. I use my tank bag nearly every ride now.
I personally like the cortech luggage - they fit the F4 banana seat well: http://www.newenoughhp.com/luggage/t..._tail_bag.html

Here are some photos from that trip:

Over look just north of Route 10/30, NY, Adirondacks: http://pic.atpic.com/874497/600
In those pictures there is the luggage, plus sleeping bag and tent piled on top.
