Alaska To California: June 2013
Hello hello... well this trip has been on my mind this whole winter and is in the making for sometime around June 12th till the 28th of June 13'. The trip is not official (NOW OFFICIAL) yet. but i just want to plan this just in case i do get my vacation approved. posted below are pics of the route. i will be riding my CBR from Anchorage, AK to Sacramento, CA. Will be trying to tent camp most of the time, unless i really have to get a room. Whole purpose to just have a blast of a lifetime, and visit some family in SAC. i'm original from there and moved up to AK in 2002, and have never left state. So i'm hoping this summer will be be possible.
If anyone is in WA,OR,CA and would like to join, meet, ride a bit with me, offer some garage time for an oil change, some maintenance if needed, couch to crash, you are more than welcome & appreciated , even tho i am on a time budget, i don't mind adjusting my route to meet up with some of ya
Muah!
i'll keep this thread update when the ride comes, you can also subscribe or add me on my Facebook page for ride updates and photos

Nuttynu, I am truly jealous! Your proposed trip looks fantastic.
Closer, more time (and more money) I'd join you.
I tend to loosely plan long journeys, rough idea of where I want to end up each night and then book hotels via the internerd when I'm on the road. This worked very well for Mrs SB and myself during the 3,100 km tour of Vietnam recently.
Best of luck with the planning.
Check over your bike, then check it again. Nothing worse than a breakdown on the road.
Cheers, SB

Thanks !! Taking time off work was the big issue. Other than that. All good.
Additional from the trip ; I'll be stopping in LA after the night in San Fran, from then . I'll head back up to sacramento, CA.
I'm excited , and have no clue what's going to happen.

Hey guys && gals...
As of now the Cbr is in stands and won't be ridden till i take off.

So far the bike already got got inspected, oil changed and is almost ready. I'll be installing new Michelin roads 3 tires ok before I head out.
Also have been looking and studying the maps of the states. Was thinking about getting a GPS. But nah. Gettin lost can be fun sometimes.
It's about 5 weeks till I take off. June 10th.
I already have most of the stuff plan as far as packing and such. I will be taking my laptop and do my best to update the NET as possible, if not I will alway be updating my Facebook page...link below. You can add me or follow.
More updates as the departure date arrives.

Good luck on your trip, I hope you have a great time. Some things to consider. Find a way to charge your phone from the bike. When you're away from towers, your phone searches and runs the battery down faster. Or consider turning the phone off while riding. Naturally let people know you're doing that and what times they can expect to be able to contact you should the need arise.
Reconsider the dedicated GPS. They have large databases of points of interest, but also things you might need in an emergency and they don't need an internet connection to work. Your cell phone would need internet for say, Google Maps to tell you where the nearest Police or Hospital might be. Even if you don't take it out and use it, if you do, you'll be glad you have it.
Try to plan your fuel stops. I imagine it can be long distances between them where you'll be riding.
Just some things to think about before you head out.

Thank you mate, I already have a 12v socket install, I can charge my iPhone, Gopro and my scala g9 on that via USB cord.
And i was thinking about the GPS. I know I can use my phone but again that's only if I have A connection.
Well see , I may end up getting a GPS, . Other than that, all I have is old paper map.

Great preparation for your trip - and I'm still jealous!
I'm firmly with IDoDirt on this one though. Take a GPS - If for no other reason than it gives you a more accurate road speed. Take paper maps (we have a great motorcycle touring map set in Australia) but DON'T leave without a GPS. It confirms your direction. Having said that, Mrs SB and I only used a GPS a few times in Vietnam, but we were glad we had it with us when needed.
Best of luck with the trip, travel safe.
Cheers, SB

Hey, Nuttynu. Think you could make a stop in Eugene Oregon and grab the sprocket if its still there?
BTW, if you decide to travel further south than los Angeles, I'd love to meet you. You're welcome to use my place in riverside California for bike repair/servicing if need be. I also offer a place to crash if need be. (i will even let you camp in the backyard if you prefer, lol)
