i bet it was his second or third time on the bike (his friends bike) and he wanted to see what he can do. looks like he pulled in the clutch instead of the front break there....

 

for a riding boot that doesn't look like a riding boot, i have to say i've been more than impressed with the icon super duty boots, i think they're about on version 5 now. i've got a pair of super duty 2's that i've worn almost every day for at least 5 or 6 years. in fact i'm wearing them now. most comfortable shoe i own, and still in great condition (except for the years of visible wear on the uppers). i have some super duty 3's that i wear when riding.

I agree with the reasons stated for wearing riding boots. As to recommendations:
Personally, if a person is going to spend the money for something labeled 'riding boots' (as opposed to a pair of Danners or something like that), then I would personally look for CE certification of the whole boot. Xpd's XP-3 and XP-7 boots are CE certified. The 3 to level 1, and the 7 to level 2.
Frankly, it is my opinion that a set of _well-chosen_ Danners (or Whites or Nicks or Red Wings or Wolverines or...) would provide similar (maybe better, in some ways?) protection as non-certified fashion boots/shoes. I could be wrong, of course, but a non-certified boot can't prove that it's better.

 

Odd thing: I was wearing my TRQs the other day after getting home. I pulled my pants out of them, so they were covered. I walked to the store and 3 different people complimented me on the boots... Till I pulled the pants leg up and showed them they were race boots The Quitos me and Nate wear though can pass for what they basically are: a nice italian boot

Revzilla has a whole Riding Shoe section for the non-Power Ranger look. Though some of the shoes featured there are questionable in my eye seeing as they barely cover the ankle

 

+1 i'm guilty of wearing these things all day if I put them on my feet.
