preventing long ride burns?
What do you guys wear to prevent from burning your legs on long rides? I keep burning my calves no matter what I wear. It was 92 degrees out yesterday and I forced myself to put on jeans to try and help w/ this problem and still ended up burning my leg. Any suggestions? I have a pair of ballistics, but they're way to big, i usually only wear them if it's real cold over another pair of jeans, so i dunno if those would work if i found new ones.
Are you actually getting burns like 1st degree redness? Not to lecture you but I wouldn't think of wearing anything less then jeans in the first place just for the safely factor in case you ever go down. If jeans alone are not doing the job maybe think about some of the chaps available from Icon or leather pants for women from Joe Rocket. If you want to try and stay with a textile pant, it looks like the Ladies Cleo from Joe Rocket might be lighter then the Ballistic.
im down in fl and have kinda the same prob but typically only when stopped in traffic for extended periods jeans and high socks that cover the calf seem to do the trick pretty well for myself.
Always jeans for me, even when it's blazing out there, can't take the risk. Hope you're not wearing what you are in you photos, cuz then yeah I can see your problem
BTW sweet ride, like what you've done with the whole colour scheme.

lol, haven't ridden in a skirt yet and not planning on it. And as for wearing less than jeans, sometimes i wear my karate gear when going back and forth to class or wear long pants that are thinner than jeans.
Since you said, "forced myself to wear jeans" I assumed you might have been wearing shorts. That's what I get for assuming and making an *** out of U & ME.
(Is that joke still going around?) Anyway, I ask again, are you actually getting burned or is the bike just feeling really hot?

depends on how long i ride, normally if i'm just riding to work or something it's alright, by the end of the ride my legs are real hot and red, but the redness goes away in an hour or so and it's okay. but when i go out riding with the guys, or go on a long bike run my leg gets burned, not real bad, but bad enough for it to stay red for a few days, not as bad as if you touch your leg to ur exhaust. if i lift up outta the seat i'm fine, but my legs get tired of that after a while. i've thought about getting higher foot pegs, but i don't really want to bend my legs anymore than they are now. if i could raise the seat a few inches it'd be perfect.
Chica, I got a 180, on this one... wrap your headers w/ that insulater stuff... or jet coat ceramic, or poilsh headers, the real problem, is heat in your engine compartment venting on you, eh???? I'll bet wrapping your headers will do it. TIP... soak the wrap in water to get a tight wrap and cut down on "itchy" fibers. Actualy more heat retention in your headers, Is GOOD... for power, cooler running engine, intake charge. It would help a rear shock from heat'n up and loose'n dampen'n too. Polished alum(any metal) retains heat aprox 200% more (yoshimura fact).
Less engine compartment heat = much less Med Well CHICA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Talk to car racers, about this stuff too. "jet coatings" is a ceramic material that has a proven record of making under hood temps less, and can be applied in several colors, finishes, even on a used header. There are heat resistant powder coatings (1200f warrenty) too, hey, blog those powder guys on the forum. Clean and free, Ripp'n

DON'T DO IT! DON'T DO IT! I have a full Yoshimura, and the previous owner who installed it also put header wrap on the bike. I hate it!! When you take a good long ride, it smells funny!!!! ANd hate to break it to ya, but speaking from experience (and Florida heat) has done nothing to keep things cooler. Granted, I ride a Kawi and they are cold-natured ANYWAY, but as far as the heat radiating off the bike? It's still effin hot!

That said, some heavier jeans and maybe some higher boots are in order for you, CBRChica. I wear a mid-calf boot (I have some shorter ones that just aren't broken in yet), and I never wear less than good heavy jeans. I've never once burned myself (I CAN feel the heat coming off the engine, and it's worse on super hot days when the sun is beating down on the asphalt, but I've never actually gotten BURNED).
CBR C, I can't see how wrapp'n wouldn't help more than heavy'r jeans... check out some tech on exaust wraps. They should provide pyrometer #, I would think.
Your being burn't... discomfort, the least of your problems. your bod is absorbing that heat, trying to cool... dehydration, dulling of your senses,DISTRACTION...I'll bet you are miserable... I'm so sorry. Clean and free, Ripp'n Nee...how about a before and after (remove'n wrap) pyrometer reading... now that would be interesting!!!!!!!!!
