Leather Gloves
Hi all.
After about 3 years, my A* SP2's finally crapped out, busting a seam on one of the gloves. So, it's time for a replacement set (or two.) I took a look around, but most of the glove threads are pretty old.
These were perfed, so a nice mix between summer and winter riding, though a glove specializing in each would probably do better; these breathed well, but were still sweaty in the summer and insulated OK (with liners) but still left me ice-fingered after 30 minutes at speed in the winter.
I know I want leather gloves; I just don't think the protective quality of textile or mesh matches up. I think I'd prefer gauntlet gloves, but these are all I've ever had so 3/4 or even short gloves might be OK. I'm just worried about wrist protection.
Any suggestions, either for gloves that are a good mix or for a couple of cheaper pairs of gloves (~$50-60 each) for summer and winter? I'm not married to A*s (especially since I just bought a 2-pc suit) but they'll probably get the edge if they're tied with another brand for quality and price.

You having had SP2's, you know what quality gloves are & are not. Really, I don't think you'll be as happy w/a lesser quality glove.
For daily use, one of my favorite pairs of gloves are Icon Merc gauntlets. They've been tough & durable, protective, & comfortable...well w/ the money.

I have some good Spidis right now, and honestly, next time around I'll almost certainly buy a solid, thick deer or elk glove. None of the fancy gingerbread, though there are some with some supplemental palm padding that I'd prefer.
I don't think you are going to get a top quality pair of gloves for less than $120-$150. I love my Icon Overlord gloves. I had a pair of SP1's and the Icons are much better quality IMHO. Go for Roo hide rather than Cow if you can.

MZ5: I think it was just getting old. It had been in two low-speed crashes, but the part that failed hadn't shown any serious wear until yesterday. I'm not really sure what caused the tear, I just realized I had one last night.

that caused your glove seam to burst? Or was it just kinda getting old?
