I had heard that after a wreck you are supposed to get a new helmet, I didn't crack it, but it did scratch off the paint if a few spots, any recommendations?

Cracks or not, you should replace it. The EPS or foam protection on the inside is most likely deformed from absorbing the impact and will not react the way it should if you hit it again. I would never chance it, but hey, it's your head.... and life.

They say... if you drop your helmet on the ground, (cement, tile, etc), you should have it replaced. Even if there are no visible signs of damage. That's why I never let anyone touch my helmet, It's with me all the time I'm out with my bike.

Replace it.

yeah, once a helmet hits the ground it should be replaced

that said, I use lightly damaged helmets on the streetwhen I'm just cruisin around/commuting so I don't have to use my good race helmets . I can leave one of my junk helmets on the bike when I go inside since I'm not worried about it being stolen (I have quite a few just like it). I'll be the first to admit, though, that its not a good idea to wear a helmet that has been damaged at all.

I would say replace it as soon as you can. How old is it? My HJC is only a 3 year helmet, but I don't totaly buy into that BS. It's your head so you make the final call.

My Shoei RF800 (Bought in 1998) just recently touched down when I dumped my CBR in a parking lot. It barely hit the ground but there were scratches in the rear of the helmet. I decided I wanted a new lid anyway so to keep it out of someone else's garage I took a sledge hammer to it. Quite a few whacks later I tore the styrofoam out of it and it was barely deformed but it was deformed. The biggest damage was that the plastic outer coating was flaking off the fiberglass.
However there were a few deformations out back where I didn't hit with the sledge. Must have been when I dumped the bike. One was a very deep crevice like it took an edge of a knife or like the point of a knife was pushed in sideways (Flat of blade). So even though the outer shell didn't look much worse for wear and it is extremely hard you never know what the foam will actually look like. I am glad I replaced mine and right now in winter you are likely to find some Christmas deals or end of the season deals out there. Why chance the cracked skull later?

Besides you can always ask Santa for a new lid or money for a lid at least.

Replace your helmet witha new one....... why take the chance of the helmet not performing correctly when you need it most.

Check this out..... I saw it at helmetharbor.com.... http://www.helmetharbor.com/Products...oductID/475713

It's a new helmet brand, Sparx, and they sound pretty good based from helmet harbor's review of them. But the best part is that if you ever damage your helmet from an accident, and you send Sparx a police report of the accident, how the helmet performed, and the damaged helmet..... they will send you a new helmet for Free!

lol...even if you smacked your helmet with a sledge in one spot, it could have made deformities in other spots. Odds are you caused those deformations when you went ballistic on it because you did more damage with it. You should have saved your helmet as a souvenir =)
