If you check on Amazon the Hero3 has gotten quite the hit in reviews....firmware is lacking, malfunctions out the yingyang, etc. Seems like they rushed it out before perfecting it. Granted I don't personally have one so am just going off what I read.
I also agree that the squareness is quite unappealing.
Another one to check out would be the ReplayXD1080.

Heh, obviously mine aren't mounted on my helmet... Or I lean waaaaaay off my bike
Mount is on my frame slider. I like the quality of the GoPro video. If I'm recording something, my objective is how the final video looks. Not how I look while filming it

I've tried a number of the (much smaller) models than the GoPro, Chinese made, short (30-40mins battery life) and have been quite happy with the results. Cheap and cheerful, keyring cameras which I mounted on my helmet, in-car dash cameras which I mounted on my fairing and are good at over 150MPH without falling off, and they all cost under $5o each.
The in car camera on the fairing has been the best so far, runs on a Nokia cellphone battery and will give you over an hour of recording, OR you can connect straight into your bike battery through the car charger attachment and then when you switch on the bike it starts running (the camera) until you switch off. Memory up to 16Gb -

Sure they aren't goPro but they aren't $300+ either.
$30 on e-Bay.
I'm cheap, I know but I've used the Oregon and Go Pro's mounted on my helmet, and they aren't comfortable to use at all.(at the speeds we ride ) and the pics aren't that much better.
Just my 2c worth
