Alpinestars tech race here. (no shoulder straps) Just started wearing it towards the end of the season. I would suggest getting on a bike at the dealer before you make a decision. Mine bugs me when I'm standing, but I don't even notice it once I'm on the bike.

 

So this is being prompted by not having health insurance?

 

figuar it will be a good low cost investment.
