knackered cbr....
a few more changes......
harley '07 softail tank off ebay. brand new £70.
filled in L/H filler cap, hole where dash was, cut tunnel out and panelled in the underneath flat for max capacity, refitted std tap and fuel gauge sender from original tank and original front mount.

1200 sportster seat £30 off ebay, mounted forward 3" and up 3" from standard, much more comfy. new subframe from 30mmx30mm box and 50mmx25mm box from my scrap bin.

engines finally just about given up on me. now its making nasty loud clattering noises, and is well down on power, and has 'clonks' i can feel thru the pegs....
good job i have my spare...
the spare appears to be a later model, the coolant plumbing is completely different, the speedo drive is off the gearbox sprocket, coils and thermostat are in different places...
after a bit of head scratching ive decided to leave the 'new' motor in its cradle and transfer/weld/bolt everything over from my current one onto it... hope to do it in a day, ride-in, ride-out. motor and cradle pretty much prepped.....

so.. as i said the other day, motor's been on its way out for a while now, interesting noises, lack of power etc.... finally got round to doing the 15 mile ride to my mates for the swap-over to the other engine/cradle that i prepped last week. bike started on 3 this morning, the forth cylinder made a brief apperance, but by 10 miles it was down to 2, with lots of new noises.... 1/2 a mile to go and it was on 1, just about made it to the w/shop, pulled up outside and it went clatter clatter clonk clonk clonk thud bang.
perfect timing!!
hopefully new motors ok, ive spun it over, but not run it up.....
not quite finished, but my lift was going at 5.30 so i had to leave it for another day.
differences between the sc21 and sc24 ive found so far...
sc21 headstock is 220mm long, the sc24's is only 210mm. solved by modding the stem and turning a 10mm spacer up.
footrest hangers are different and the gear lever is a different design. solved by using the sc21 parts on the sc24 frame.
speedo drive is from sprocket cover on sc24. solved by using the sc21 sprocket cover and clutch slave cylinder. fits straight on. had to relieve a bit of the crankcase to fit my +1 gearbox sprocket, it catches the case at the 3 o'clock position.
sc21 carbs fitted straight into the sc24 rubbers.
still to swap pick-ups over from the old sc21 motor.
sc21 reg/rect socket plugged straight into the sc24 alternator output socket, so should work ok?
moved the exhaust to the other side so i can lengthen the sidestand, it was leaning over too far with the jacked up rear end and forks pushed down thru the yokes.

so... new replacement engine has done its gearbox after 1,000 miles.
another engine should be delivered on a pallet within the next couple of days.
not having much luck....
Chr1st you've been busy mate, completely missed this thread, but makes interesting reading!
You're not too lucky in the engine/gearbox department. Never heard of one failing yet.
I like standard bikes, but the black naked industrial look is rather appealing and I love you sense of irony
Maybe it should be a Hondaly Deamonson?
