Susie B(udget) B(andit)
So, I picked this bike up last February, 2000 Suzuki Bandit 600. I bought it for $450 off of a Marine who was in the middle of trying to bobber it. He had taken a spill with it when he and a friend connected on a group ride.
I picked it up while it was basically a roller with the motor , everything else was in a couple of baskets. No manual, crumpled up exhaust, and mangled handlebars. The bike was completely stock as I got it (apart fromthe bobber attempt).
Life got in the way, and this bike was essentially pushed to the side until a few weeks ago when I finally said "I'm getting this done"
I had bought some different things for it. Drag bars, drag specialties headlight and a TrailTech gauge. I also swapped out the worn shock for a hayabusa one. It adds an inch of height, adjustability, and better valving.
So, as of now, I'm into it for around $650 ish. I want to be done for under $800 and I'm almost there minus some welding and paint.
I don't know how long it had sat before I got to it, but after almost a year of sitting with me, all I did was clean the carbs and it started right up.
Im going to be running pod filters, and a can left over from my wife's gs500 part out. Ive got the jetting sorted out (I think anyways....) also, I ditched what was Suzukis version of the PAIR system.
Here's a pick of what its going to look like

Its a 600rr tail. It'll double as a battery tray with the CDI and fuse box.
Its certainly not a world beater, but for $800, its going to be a fun little bike.
I painted the tank in bedliner, I'm going to gloss paint the frame black Long with the swinger and triple (theinly thing that won't be black will be the motor.
If I have enough left over and can find them cheap enough, I might throw a set of early 90s/80s gsxr cams in it as it should give it a bit more grunt.
I'm going to ride it until my bike is done and then probably sell it (2 friends have already said they want it so I'll be able to get rid of it easy).
When I get the chance, I'll put up a pic of how it was when I brought it home. It wasn't pretty, but I think with a bit more effort, it'll be a decent ride, at least mechanically speaking, if not aesthetically pleasing.

For a Bandit it's not a bad looking motor at all. Don't fancy the original look that much and from what I remember from riding my friend's bike once it sure could have used more aggressive cams. From a basket case to a runner is one thing on it's own, getting it to look that good on a budget is another. Job well done I say.

I do find it sad that it has essentially the same hp as an SV, and if I do swap the cams, it should fix it. A lot of the 1100 guys use 750 cams as they had the most lift. Someone with a B12 made almost 20hp off of them alone..
Im also going to throw my r6 throttle tube on it while I get my bike done (im starting to panic about how much paint will cost on the 980)
Thanks! It'll be a fun little bike, I think.
Oh, the choke cable was broken, so I deleted it. Im going to make a nice little lever for choke on the carbs.
The wiring is/was a mess. Wire nuts (and just electrical tape in some cases) held everything together, and the guy mistakenly wired his acerbis through the guage wiring harness, so nothing worked like it should and most of the wiring was corroded. But I've almost sorted it.

Question
I have the trailtech hooked up, but this bike runs wasted spark, so no matter how I run the rpm signal wire, it reads 2X the revs its supposed to. Any idea on how to fix this?
That tail sits pretty stink-buggy. Maybe its just the pic...
If you raise the exhaust and match the tail angle, it might look better.
Does the tach have a setting for an 8 or a 2 cylinder? One will cut the signal in half, but I forget which.

Okay, so I broke down and read some instructions (what a concept...). Trail Tech goes by Pulses Per Revolution, or PPR, and is adjustable from .5 to 2. Running in wasted spark puts me at 1 since its a 4 stroke, so we'll see how it goes. It doesn't configure based on cylinder count, which I thought was odd.
And that fairing is literally just sitting on there. I'll post a pic without to show you the PO`s angle-grinder-fever. There is a 1/4 inch thick steel plate that the rear of the seat bolts down to, and the rest rearward of the frame is essentially hacked off. I'll play around with it for sure. But the bobber thing just doesn't do it for me.

I have access to o/a, and a 110 MIG with gas set-up that I've used before. I could do that... I didn't really think about it because I just had those parts laying around....
Its not as if there isn't a ton of inspiration in the interesting pic thread...
My fab skills are getting a bit better as far as sheet goes. And there were going to be issues with the 600rr tabs for the pillion cover that would be eliminated. I think I'll work on that idea. I have a ton of spare taillights laying around too.
