I bought a new starter but after putting it on I realized they sent the wrong one. Thankfully it didn't do any damage. They sent a new one with the proper tooth count pretty fast but when I put it on it did the same thing as the old one. I was trying to start the bike using the start function of a battery charger and it wasn't enough juice. When I hooked the starter and a battery to the bike it finally turned over.

I hooked up some fuel lines to an iv bottle of gas to try and get it running. It would fire off a little but was having a lot of trouble because one of the carbs was leaking gas pretty bad. I took that carb off and gave it a pinesol bath and plan to do the other one once I get my gaskets mail. While it is off I shined it up pretty good.

I had to do a lot of work to the rearsets I bought from Danmoto since they were meant for a GSXR not a 1975 BMW. I’ve almost completed machining everything for one side. I made a bracket for it to mount to the bike and a new shifter lever. I spent forever last night making a hole for the bearings in the shifter lever. They are 7/8 inch round and I didn’t have a bit that would work. I tried to machine the hole out using a mill cutting bit but my drill press set up isn’t very effective. I ended up grinding out the hole with a grinding drill bit and a drum sander. It took a long time but it was effective. I have some heim joints coming in the mail so hopefully I’ll be able to complete the linkage this week.

I have this speedometer coming in the mail:

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

I plan on setting in a plate of aluminum and having a few toggle switches and maybe this as my push button start:
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

A lot of text here but I'll snap some pictures when I get home.

Shiny sets

Bing Bling!

Poor Honda has received almost no love since I got this bike. I did make a mounting bracket for the speedo on the Honda. I'll get some picks of it on once I have something else to report.

I spent a whole night reorganizing the workshop. Doesn't sound tough but it was... I pushed three heavy a$$ bikes out to the barn in the snow and moved my CBR inside. None of the bikes had moved in a long time so the brakes or chain was seized up on basically every one. My Honda felt like a bicycle after moving those bastards. I put the Honda up on a stand in the hopes that it would get me to start paying more attention to it but my mind is still wrapped up in the BMW.

I took the shifter lever off and caramel came out!

My tach/speedo came in last week so I made this bracket up. I need to clean it up some but I really like how it came out. I will be adding a start button in the center of the bracket just in front of the steering dampener and two LED turn signal indicators almost inline with the mounting bolts.

I made the bracket to hold the right side rear set last week too. The linkage is going to be tougher than I first anticipated for both the shifter and the the rear brake.

Today I bought a stainless steel salad bowl at Kmart and did some experimenting. I'm probably going to rivet this together and fiberglass it like I did the side covers on the Honda but this looks really neat in raw metal and I think if I did it again I could probably cut it cleaner and make a stainless fairing

In addition to all this I put one carb back together and dropped the other into a pine sol bath. Hopefully I'll get them all cleaned up and have this thing running by the end of the week. Dying to hear what it sounds like.

Awesome, cant wait for you to have this up and running. I've made some progress on the suzuki. removed the airbox and stuff and bought new jets so going to reinstall with pod today and see how it goes. I installed the headlight and also bought the speedo/pods for the Honda. Doug's bike is looking pretty good too- new clip ons and he removed the entire dash aside from the speedo and it looks nice and clean. Only thing is he lowered the front end 3.... yes 3 inches. When you visit this weekend I'll need you to convince him that it's crazy low and dangerous.

David, do you know what gauge the aluminum is that you used for the speedo mount?
