Well Hi all, didn't know which section to post in this is just general bike chat. Today I just fired up my newly purchased bike/project for the first time after stripping the fairings off and treating everything as an unknown compression testing, fuel tank clean out carb strip and refurb along with oil and filter plugs, fuel filter air filter and a lot of cleaning I finally got to the point of temporary fuel supply battery on jump leads and press the button! Well I don't know when this bike last ran 2016 on mot but it fired and started immediately with no knocks or untoward noises and revved like a racehorse to which point I did the Henry cole shuffle leg kick in the air and ran in the house to get the son and wife to join in the rejoicing which they did. I was over the moon and after fitting a new cooling fan switch and anti freezing the radiator the bike purred like a kitten and the fan cut in and out at 85 degrees as it should then strangely after turning the bike off and on again NOTHING no starter solenoid or motor action. After checking the wiring I found an old alarm system had been removed ( badly ) and a wire was severed so after taking out unnecessary wires and a relay soldering all joints I used self amalgamating rubber tape to repair the wiring loom and tried again, this time perfect!
I now have the front fork seals to do, all the brakes and cush drive rubbers before I can think about first ride out but overall I'm buzzing. On another note I have a Deauville 650nt that went through similar process last year to use this season while my cbr gets the works, I was going to sell it having only just bought it and done 100 miles before deciding I didn't like it lol hence the recent purchase of my beloved 600fk but after the wife said why don't you keep it I thought had she had a bump on the head or what but who am I to argue ?
The carb rebuild was done using a china sourced kit for £15 for all 4 carbs delivered in 3 weeks and fitted perfectly the only bit I couldn't use because of size difference was the float needle valve seat. Well thats it for now stay safe everyone all the best AL.
That's great news and thanks for sharing. I love stories like that. I wonder if that was her way of providing a subtle hint that maybe she'd like to give riding a motorcycle a go? You never know. I mean someone has to ride the other bike, right?
