Default 600 vs 1000

Howwould you describe the difference between a 600 and 1000?Many timesI have read 1000's are for experienced riders.

Is it just a personal preference when it comes to this? I'm two weeks into riding and have a 600f4i, which I love...but just curious why some prefer one over the other.

In particular....how does theCBR1000RR compare w/ the R1.

The 600 is fast.
The 1000 is ridiculously fast.

Pretty much sums it up.

Street riding only or do you plan on doing track days? It matters.

The biggest difference in having a 1000 over a 600 is torque. The biggest advantage 600's have over 1000's is that they are more nimble being that they are overal smaller. You can throw them into a corner easier but the 1000's seem to be more stable no matter what speed over the 600. Any way you cut it either machine is bad *** in its own right but how bad *** it can be come down to one thing, the rider. As for the R1 and 1000RR both are great bikes. Honda has a better fit and finish as well as reliability but lacks alittle power compared to the R1. Currently the new R1's are having trouble with their new "fly by wire" velocity stacks.

chornbe-no plans for track days right now...

trimax - thanks for the info...

Met a guy w/ a 1000Gixxer who said he got bored w/ the power on a 600. I'm on the opposite of that spectrum now...but if and when that time comes for me I'll check out the 1000. Man, I love to ride!!!!

600's have more power than most people will ever need or exploit to it potential.

I prefer the 1000s. Acceleration is better. Bigger more comfortable. More torque and power. Power wheelies are ridiculously easy. Keeps me on my toes because of the power. Handles the track just fine. I don't see 600's just destroying 1000's on the track.

If someone is BORED with a 600 they aren't riding it right!! They rock. I ride my wifes R6 through the twisties and it puts every bit as much of a smile on my face as my 1000. And it's less work to go fast through tight bits on the 600. I love my 1000 and would not be with out a liter bike, but it wasn't because my 600 bored me. It was a VERY fun bike. I like the 1000 for it's torque. I ride my bike to work more often than not and having power available EVERYwhere is nice. And......yes it wheelies VERY easy.
A 600 with a GOOD rider can eat an average rider on a 1000 for lunch at the track. I've been there.......and been eaten alive by race prepped 600's. Street 600's dont really stand much of a chance........but a race prepped 600 will make upwards of 130RWHP and weigh in around 360lbs. They are VERY fast.

Just my opinion.........I think that after 2 weeks even the thought of a 1000 should scare you. They are nothing to scoff at. Hell your F4i makes a LOT more power than my 600 Hurricane did, and it was still quite fun.

The 600 rules for track days, the 1000 has more usable power.........to a certain degree. It makes it's power lower in the RPM range....making it more useful more of the time, but not always.

I dont know........I like em both for different things.

There's nothing wrong with getting a 1 liter bike. Its like me saying I'm tired of driving a pickup and going out and buying a Mustang GT. The main thing I look at is to see if I'm "comfertable" with it. If there's any doubt or you fell akward, then thats when trouble arrives.

I've only been on a 250 and an 800cc, so I have no knowledge of what a 600, 750, or a 1000cc feels like. I'd like to ride one of each just so I can say I know the difference. Heck I'd like to ride the odd ***** like Kawa's 636.

I'm a big guy and the 600 has more than enough power to get my *** moving. Mine is a 92 and judging by how the newer ones look I'll have to move to at least a 900+ just to get a larger bike to ride as the new 600s seem smaller than my older F2 and the bars seem a lot lower. I think if and when I ever upgrade, I'll probably buy a used 954 and save my $$ for tires or safety gear.

I've got over a thousand miles on my bike in the first month and a half so far and I'm not even close to knowing what I need to in order to ride a bigger and faster bike.
