Default 2008 r6

ok, so my friend wants to buy a 2008 yamaha r6 because he says it has more power than my 007 cbr 600rr. first off is this true? from what i've read the honda has better low and mid range power and overall just quicker. secondly i have heard that these bikes have some mechanical and electrical problems, does anyone know anything about this? any pros and cons on the yamaha would be much appreciated, thanks

Well I have a subscription to sport rider as well as motorcyclist....They'r reviews of the bike have been outstanding.....they say that the midrange power that was greatly lacking in the older models has now been upped by a substantial amount....Not only this but they say it is allot of fun on the track in stock condition....if you want to read it its in march 08 edition of Sport rider

Haha, no they are not all pretty much the same. Yeah- the R6 used to lack low power in general, decent mid, and had all the pull in the high rpms. But like Dj said, they did make nice improvements on the 2008 R6 with better mid-range pull, and from what I hear, the low end power has been improved as well. You can only compare each bike on the track, on the roads- its all about how you drive it. You can definately out-perform him on his R6 using your 600rr, no question about it. Oh, I just said some pros...Some cons against the R6 is that, im sure, it still revs high, and not a lot of torque in low and mid, but I cant wait to ride one and find out. I was not at all impressed by the 2007 R6, so lets see about this years'.

On the track, they are on top...suspension is really stiff.
Very light.

Not sure about the power of the 08 R6, but I sat on one last week and it was super light, but I was to hunched over on it and could not touch the ground very well. I am 5'8".

Even if it is better, faster, whatever....it wont be enough for the average rider to notice.

I enjoyed my R6 when I had it. It was a fine bike. What I didn't like about it was the overall comfort. This is probably a track bike more than a street bike. On the street I was good for about an hour or so and then something hurt. Usually the wrists. I'm fine on my cbr1k but the R6 would just kill my wrists. [sm=imsmilin.gif]

The other thing was when I crouched down it was uncomfortable, it was too cramped for me. I love the 6 but liter bikes are more roomy, amoungst other things.

And the other thing I didn't like was up front just below the headlights, the plastic fairing around the headlights on the bottom started to warp. Creating a gap. That pissed me off. The dealer tried to tell me that that happens on all bikes after the plastic fairings stretch. [sm=wtf.gif]

Those things don't happen on my other bikes. Needless to say the R6 is a badass looking bike, maybe the best looking overall but those are the only things I didn't like. Everything else I absolutely loved. Braking, cornering, handling, suspension, acceleration. ButI love my cbr1k even more.
