2000 919
I am looking to buy a 2000 919 from my brother in law and I want some input to make sure it is worth it. I really love the naked bikes, I used to have an SV650S. Anyways, he wants to sell it for 2k. It has high mileage (25k) because it was a commuter. It has a salvage title because it has been dropped.
He says the tank is dented because it was dropped a couple of times. But I don't think that is enough of a reason to have a salvage title. So is there something he is not telling me?

It's your brother in law.....how bad would he risk screwing you?
I can tell you the 919 is FUNNNNN!!! My friend had one before his 954 and it was a blast. It sucked ***** riding from the Hills back to home on the freeway but for in the Hills and around town/short trips it's a gas to ride. I'm sure there are more fun bikes but I have yet to ride one. It's no track day tool in stock form but again......for tooling around town or your local twisties a more fun bike will be hard to find.
For 2k I would buy one just to play with.
25K isn't what I would consider high mileage either.

919's are no slouches. They are 'detuned' for tourque but that's a good thing because the usable power is farther down in the rev range where you are 90% of the time in traffic and taking off.
There is quite a following for this bike, it's huge in the UK - called the Honda Hornet. Look up forums for it. You can find tons of aftermarket mods and flyscreens, carbon fiber bits, etc...
I've got over 20k miles on my 2003 and it still rides like brand new, even better since it's broken in.
It does have a standard or more-upright riding style. This is more comfortable but its a little different if you're use to leaning over far. You can change the bars and rearsets if you want to lay over like a CBR.
I like the upright stance and the clean styling. I've gone through a few changes on mine, but ended up going back to stock on most of it as I like that it's different from my CBR 1k.
